I often find myself relying on audio terms to describe tastes. Intensely sour tastes are spiky treble, bitterness runs a spectrum from bass to white noise, and so on. It allowed me to work in the wine world with more sanity than if I had to banter about “hints of cassis” all day, which is a useful way of discussing taste with some people, and completely useless and alienating to a lot of people.
Which is why I can say earlier this week that “this cocktail tastes like a deerhunter song.” Because honestly, it did. (via MBV)
